Obituary of Janet Mallory-Wood
MALLORY-WOOD: Janet –
December 2, 1946 – December 11, 2021
It is with deep sadness, that the family announces the death of Jan Mallory-Wood.
She was the loving wife of Neil Wood and beloved mother of Michael Johnston (Melissa), Jeffrey Johnston (Danica) and Andrew Johnston.
Wonderful step-mother to Neil’s children, David, Noelle, Andrea and Daryl.
Beloved sister of Mary Adair (Skip) and John Mallory (Cathy).
Proud grandmother of Lorne, Cash, Sawyer, Alexander and Sebastian.
She will be greatly missed by her many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was a baby boomer with the emphasis on the word “boomer” as she never turned down any invitations to a gathering. Jan is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and attained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She taught mathematics with the rare ability to teach equally and effectively to the brilliant students and the average students. She became Head of the Guidance Department at the Blenheim District High School and her wise advice greatly assisted her students in their choice of post high school academics and careers.
Jan served on the boards of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation and the Carlo Rossini Foundation. Jan was an optimist who always had a smile on her face that will be missed by everyone.
A Private Funeral will be live-streamed at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 on the McKinlay Funeral Home website. A Celebration of Life will be announced in July.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Chatham Kent Community Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Death notice for the town of: Blenheim, Province: Ontario
We are deeply saddened by this loss that will be felt by so many. Although it has been many years since our connections in Kent county, Jan is remembered with great fondness and respect for her vitality and generosity.
Warmest regards, Tom and Karen Close
Our hearts are breaking to hear of this this news…
Jan was one special lady -we had the best conversations over a glass of wine at the cottage-solving all world problems. This happened once or twice per year, but time did not matter, we always just picked up where we left off.
Jan was the most welcoming person we knew, always asking questions to learn more about you and when you were with her you just never wanted to leave her presence. She was filled with warmth and kindness.
Neil we send you strength. Mike & Jeff we send you our love and our great friend Drew we wrap our arms around you and are here for you always
Truly,
Michael, Cece and Mia McLauchlin xoxo
We will miss you Jan
I had the great opportunity to work with Jan at Blenheim District HS for 3 years (c ~ 2005). As a new VP there, and Jan in Guidance, I found her a wonderful source of wisdom and very approachable in finding innovative solutions. She guided not only students but administration in making good decisions.
Beyond that – she did not take herself too seriously and had a joie de vivre. We were able to share the odd glass of wine over the years and she was definitely a classy lady full of compassion.
My condolences to all the family
