Marguerite Evelyn Gilks

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Marguerite
(Thorne) Gilks which occurred at the Pine Grove Nursing Home on
Tuesday, December 7th, 2021. Born February 3rd, 1931, in
Cambridge-Narrows, NB, she was the daughter of the late Isaiah and
Evelyn (Smith) Thorne and wife to Allan Gilks for 68
years.
Marg is survived by her husband, Allan; her children, Greg
(Tracy), Blake (Susan) and Phillip (Colleen); grandchildren,
Katherine, Thea, Brooks, Keely (Patrick) and Allie (Richard) and great
grandchildren Mila and Felix Potier. Predeceased by her parents,
brothers, Jack and Ralph Thorne and grandson Trevor
Gilks.
Marg was a proud graduate of Sus High School, Class of
1947. She went on to study, at the Saint John General
Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. It was
during this time that she met her future husband. After
their marriage, Marg and Allan moved to Fredericton where she worked
at the Victoria Public Hospital, before moving to the new Dr. Everett
Chalmers Regional Hospital.
Marg recognized the importance of volunteering, so in 1962
she joined the Governor Carleton Chapter of the IODE where she served
for over 50 years.
The family would like to thank all of the staff of the Pine
Grove Nursing Home who have provided loving care for the past 5
years.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church (Parish)
