Captain Cecil’s Obituary
Captain Cecil Albert Ross (90) of Stoney Island went to be with the Lord, peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 1, 2021. Born in Stoney Island, to parents Orville and Edna Ross on June 11, 1931.
Cecil fished most of his life for lobster from Ellenwoods Island and went drailing for pollock and cod. During his summers he also went mossing. While lobstering he caught the best catch of his life, his wife, Lorraine whom he married on June 9, 1954. They would spend the next 67 years side-by-side growing a loving family. Cecil loved the outdoors and to be surrounded by family camping in his earlier years. He also cherished his visits to Ellenwoods Island with family and good friends. In later years, he enjoyed spending his time at Welshtown Lake. He also could be found watching his grand children and great-grand children at any sporting event he could attend. Grampie Cecil was happiest when his living room was full of all of his many grandchildren, whom he adored. He looked forward to attending church and enjoyed taking his evening drives with Lorraine and Jersey to scope out the wharves and around the Hawk to see the deer.
He is survived by wife Lorraine Ross; children: Kevin (Sheila) Ross, Shirley Ross, Corey (Beatrice) Ross, Petora (Robbie) Newell; sisters Audrey Smith, Isabelle Tower and Maureen Nickerson and brother Hubert Ross; grandchildren: Daniel (Katrina), Jared (Cheyne), Nicholas (Bobbie), Paige (Ian), and Katlin (Beth); great grandchildren: Dustin (Kylee), Shaynea (Patrick), Camden, Chayney, Blake, Kami, Madisyn, Bentley, Bella and William and great-great-grandchildren: Adaline and Emberlyn. He will also be sadly missed by Jersey.
He was predeceased by his parents: Orville and Edna Ross; grandsons: Benjamin Ross, Craig Swim and Dana Swim; brothers: James Ross and Sterling Ross; sisters Elaine Quinlan and Susie Smith.
