WALKER, Rose Marie (née Mohler)
April 30, 1926 – November 29, 2021
With profound sorrow, we announce that Marie passed away November 29 after a brief but hard-fought illness, surrounded by love. Beloved wife of the late Roy Walker and daughter of the late George and Hilma Mohler of Alberta. Little sister of the late Harrington, Gordon, and Gerald Mohler. Extraordinary and dearly loved mother and mother-in-law, and center of our family universe, to Janice and Bernie, Jim and Cathy, Roy and Carol, and Helen and Claude. Spectacular Grandma of Stacie (Jason), Shauna, and Benoit; David (Chantal) and Greg (Lauren); Hilary (Dan) and Justine; Quinn (Jules), Madison, Aubrey, and Gemma. Loving Great Grandma of Cameron, Ryder, Everleigh, Olive, and Bentley.
Marie was born on the family farm in Holden, Alberta, the youngest of four and only daughter. She adored her parents but lost her mother at an early age. She attended a boarding convent school in Edmonton, later living with her best friend’s family. Marie was beautiful, intelligent, and lively. On her own at 17, she worked at the Royal Bank where she met her dashing husband, Roy. When Roy re-enlisted in the RCAF, they couldn’t bear to be apart so they married in Ottawa in 1950. They were posted to bases throughout Canada, France, and the Netherlands, accompanied by their four children. What an amazing adventure, travelling throughout Europe during the mid to late 1960s! Returning to Canada in 1969, Marie and Roy settled in Aylmer, QC, where their children grew up. Their home was filled with books, music, and laughter, and boundless love. Saturday night hamburgers and milkshakes, Sunday roast beef dinners with Yorkshire pudding, pool parties with all the grandchildren. At 95, Marie was still driving her car, still cleaning her own home, still baking cookies and muffins for visitors. We remember her in her favourite chair in the kitchen where the sun streamed in the window, reading the newspaper as she sipped her coffee. In the evening, she sat in her other favourite chair in the living room, completing the Sudoku, Jumble, and crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her mind was ever active, her soul ever gracious, her kindness ever present, her smile ever warm. Our angel on earth is now gracing the heavens with that smile.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Hôpital de Hull for their tender care. A private family service will be held, with a celebration of life and interment of ashes alongside her husband, Roy, to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
