Paul Joseph Poirier November 18 2021

Poirier, Paul Joseph – Age 71, of Lindsay Lake passed away November 18, 2021 in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Joseph Poirier and the late Helen “Peggy” (Reinhardt) Scown.
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Cranton) Poirier, and their two daughters, Jordan (Russell) DeLong, Bedford; and Haylee Poirier, New Glasgow. Also survived by siblings, Richard, Mississauga; Nadine Allison, Fort Lauderdale; Joel, Mississauga; nieces and nephew, Jennifer McDonough, Stephanie Mirsky, Samuel Cranton and Talia Cranton.
Paul was an honest and generous man. He was intellectually brilliant and was gifted in many areas, such as music and computer programming. He was especially proud of his work with MacKay Meters of Westville, for whom he designed and wrote Parking Meter Management Software which was implemented and used world-wide. He also wrote Handicapping and Tournament software which was used for several years at various golf courses.
Unfortunately, Paul was haunted by the demons of his past, especially being deserted by his father at the age of 15, when he was left to live alone on the streets of Halifax. He never fully recovered from this abandonment and many other hurts that followed. For many years he found contentment in his family, home, and work, but eventually, depression became his constant companion.
Just one year ago he was diagnosed with several serious medical conditions. In spite of all the specialist visits and trips to Halifax, so far as we knew, no clear path of treatment was ever determined for him.
The process of arranging palliative care had begun when he took a turn for the worse and had to be admitted to hospital on Nov 15th. The doctors had cleared him to be discharged and to return home on the 19th, but he died peacefully in his sleep just a few hours after his wife’s visit on the 18th. It is comforting to know that they had that last pleasant morning together.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
Due to Covid-19 travel and gathering restrictions, no service has been planned for the immediate future. Updates will be posted on Norma’s Facebook page.
