Michael Joseph
Ennis
July 17, 1941 –
November 18, 2021
With deep sadness the family of Michael Joseph Ennis announce
his peaceful passing at home in Freshwater on November 18, 2021. He
was 80 years old.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Michael and Eliza Ennis;
his children William, Randy, and Ross Hutchings; and his beautiful
granddaughter, his “Hersey”, Chelsea Legge.
Left with fond and precious memories are his loving and
faithful companion Leona Hutchings; his one and only daughter Karen
Hutchings; Grandchildren Alannah (Connor), David (Kelsey), Eric,
Melissa, and Tyrin; Great-Grandchildren, the joy of his life, Adam and
Brielle; and Daughters-in-law Lucy and Barbara.
Remembering their brother are George (Doreen), Lawrence,
Ronald, Lucy, Gertrude (Alexander) and Maryanne. He will be missed by
a large circle of nieces, nephews, and the members of
Leona’s family.
Mike will also be remembered by his Godchild McKayle and
close friends Donna and Jerome Lambe, Maureen Murphy, Lorraine and
Ferg Manning, Winnie McFatridge and Tom and Kathleen
Maher.
Mike shared a special relationship with his neighbours across
the road, the Power’s – Wayne, Sandra, and Wayne Jr. The
family wish to thank them from the bottom of their hearts for their
care and support. Thank you to special family friend, Wendy
McFatridge, who was always there to help. Thank you as well to Dr.
Hiba and the staff of Placentia Health Centre, including the Lions
Manor Nursing Home for their continued care and
compassion.
Mike was born and raised on Merasheen Island in Placentia Bay
in 1941, later resettling with his family to Freshwater. It was here
that he met and fell in love with his soul mate Leona, a love that has
lasted for fifty years. Their special relationship also brought
Leona’s children into his life and together they became a
loving family.
Mike and Leona enjoyed the company of family and friends and
welcomed any opportunity to socialize, especially if there was music
and dancing. He was an award-winning dart player and enjoyed a game of
cards, TV Bingo and watching his favourite sports teams. His work life
led him to many places and experiences before beginning a career in
the Federal Public Service with Parks Canada that spanned 35 years. He
enjoyed his work at the National Parks and Historic Sites in the
Province, including his beloved Castle Hill. Mike was a proud member
of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 33 Placentia, and the Golden Club
of Senior Citizens in Freshwater.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Maher’s
Funeral Home, Placentia. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm
to 9:00 pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial
will take place at Holy Rosary Church, Freshwater at 10:30 am on
Monday, November 22, 2021. Those wishing to attend the mass are asked
to contact Wayne Power Jr. at 227-4913 to register. Public Health
Guidelines will be in place for the visitation and
mass.
As an expression of sympathy flowers will be gratefully
accepted or donations can be made in his memory to a charity of
choice.
