It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Clarence on November 17, 2021.
Born in Point Edward on July 1, 1933, to Kenneth and Louise (Lewis) MacDermid, he, at the age of 16, went to Moncton to get his apprenticeship as a boilermaker with CN.
After working at various jobs in Ontario, he joined the Navy, where he served for ten years before returning to work as a machinist at CN Marine in North Sydney. Later, Clarence joined the fishing industry which he enjoyed well into his 80’s.
He was very proud of his fishing/pleasure boat, “A Wee Dram”, which saw many trips to the lakes and beyond, idling to keep in stride with the “Mairi Bochd”. “A Wee Dram” was always filled with a happy crew of neighbours and friends during the annual poker runs.
Clarence enjoyed his time spent in the “dog house” doing woodworking projects and tinkering away. Anyone that ventured through the mess was sure to leave with a wooden bowl for their efforts. He enjoyed his and Wanda’s trips to Scotland, where he was proud to meet his many relatives and spend time on the family croft, where he acquired a taste for a Wee Dram, and which eventually led to a nice little Scotch collection at home.
Clarence enjoyed his Sunday outings, spending time with the in-laws, Ian and Annie, Alana (Kevin), Eric (Jamie Lynn), Ryan (Erica) MacInnis and Julius (Kelsey), and their families in Baddeck. Most of all, Clarence was happy to have the house full of family, friends, best neighbours, and the little grandchildren, Logan Ciaran, and Kelsey.
Clarence will be deeply missed by his wife and first mate, Wanda (nee MacInnis) and their son, Sandy (Kelly). He is also survived by sons, Charles, Kenny (Claire), Bryan, Todd (Heidi) and Clarence Jr. (Marcie) and daughters, Janet (Dave), Kim (Dave), Dawn, Evelyn (Dave), Ellen (Dan), Michelle (Joe) and Tammy, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will also be missed by his brother, Charles (Ann) and their boys, Kenzie (Lynda), Kelly (Joanna) and Jason (Lisa) and by his furry friend, “Caper”, the one-eyed cat that Clarence worried about every time she went out the door.
Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his sister, Carol Ann; son, Dean; granddaughter, June; and grandson, Cory.
A celebration of life will be planned for next summer.

“God grant that I may live to fish for another shining day,
but when my final cast is made I then most humbly pray
when nested in your landing net as I lay peacefully asleep
You’ll smile and judge that I’m good enough to keep.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Clarence Alexander MacDermid 2021..
