Barbara May Lucas
Keeping a promise to her younger self, in 1955, Barbara travelled by rail to New York City, where she boarded the RMS Ivernia, and began her trip to England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Returning to Alberta after her transatlantic journey, Barbara married Larry Lucas in 1957, and together they raised their family in the Wetaskiwin and Pigeon Lake regions.
Barbara retired from the Government of Alberta Dairy Division in 1993, and her and Larry began enjoying winters on Vancouver Island, in Texas and Arizona.
Widowed in 2005, Barbara continued travelling throughout Western Canada, parts of the United States and Mexico. These travels created extraordinary memories, as on each trip she welcomed the company of one of her children or grandchildren as travelling companions, truly making the journey as special as the destination.
In addition to her rich family life, Barbara treasured her many friends who were always ready to accompany her to a live play, garden tour, Christmas concert, or simply a coffee on Tuesday afternoons. She was an active member of the Horticulture Society and a member of the First United Church congregation.
Left to miss her terribly, and remember her fondly, are her daughters, Heather and her husband Kevin, and his children Brendan and Allison; Alicia, her husband Denis and their sons Dallas and Riley; sons, Neil, his wife Valarie and their children Corbin and Tasmin; Kevin, his wife Laura and their children, Megan (Scott) and Joshua (Rose).

A memorial service will take place at the Wetaskiwin First United Church on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
Private interment (for immediate family only) will follow at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery.
There will be no luncheon following the service, and family asks that everyone take a moment to remember Barbara in their own special way. In lieu of floral tributes, the family suggests a donation may be made in Barbara’s memory to the First United Church Wetaskiwin, or a charity of their choosing.
