David Thomas Vrooman Monday November 15th 2021

David Vrooman
Vrooman, David Thomas, 47: Dave passed away peacefully on November 15th surrounded by his family, after a very determined battle with cancer. Throughout the last months he remained sweet and polite, and extremely funny.
Dearly loved son of Ginnie Vrooman and the late John Vrooman; adored little brother to sisters Debbie (Rob) Saunders, Wendy Vrooman (Andre Boudreau); fun-loving uncle to nieces Alyssa Porter (Chris), Katie Saunders, Nina Look and nephew Connor Look; beloved by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Also survived by grandmother Elsa Lessard.
He is described by his colleagues as pivotal in every work setting first in IT support and then as a public servant and is remembered as kind, candid, witty and supportive and a bright light to any team. Many long-time friends also remember him as loyal and caring, and the instigator of good times.
His childhood spans Dartmouth and Ottawa. He was a gifted athlete, playing hockey, snowboarding, skiing, scuba diving and excelling at anything he tried. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and fishing with many friends. Dave was a barbecue afficionado, everything he made was exceptional. His connection with animals was unique, he was a ‘whisperer’ to many species.
We are grateful for the kindness of Dr. Hilton and Dr. Whetter during his treatment. We would also like to thank the exceptional care we received from Dr. Priscilla Bright, and nurse Linda Tolstoy, who became part of our family as they cared for Dave. As difficult as the last months have been, his family and friends were able to spend some wonderful time and have some laughs.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Rd.), on Friday, November 19th, 2021 with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of the Service in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. which will also be livestreamed. 1. I am so sorry for your loss, Ginny and (immediate) family. Know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many family even though COVID-19 makes physical presence impossible.

  2. Dear David, I am so sad to hear this news, and family I am so sorry for your loss of David.
I have thought of David often, but always when I am driving on the Ottawa River Parkway: when I worked with him at Iris and I had to go to Gatineau for a French exam, he wisely ‘advised’ me to take the ‘zen’ route, and not the Queensway.
Dear David – find your peace and I will always remember to take the zen route.

  3. Dear Ginnie:
I am sooo sorry for your loss.
I can’t imagine what you are going through.
I am currently in Florida, or otherwise I would for sure be there.
I will be there in spirit, and watch it on livestream.
Hugs to you and your family,
    Shirley

  4. Hello Ginnie,

I wish to say so long to a great working colleague.

Throughout our stressful work time together, we often took the time to talk about the great pleasures and meaning of life that we had in common, we spoke of various subjects like IT Security, motorcycles, snowmobiling, boating, hunting & fishing and cottage life.

    kind regards,

    Denis L.

  7. I met Dave back in high school and we travelled across Canada together to BC and we eventually became roommates many moons ago. Dave was ALWAYS making us laugh. Over the years we lost touch and I’m so very sorry to hear of his illness and his death. My thoughts are with his family because I know you were all a very big part of his life. To all of his friends near and far, I’m so sorry for your loss as well. I was unable to make it to the service today but I am grateful to have been able to tune in virtually. The stories of Dave brought back so many great memories. Please accept my most sincere condolences. Rest in peace my old friend….
