Obituary for
Carmel Diotte (Desmarais)
Nov. 20, 1930 – Jan. 25, 2021
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother at her home surrounded by her sons and daughters. Carmel born in Spragge, was raised in Spanish and spent the war years in Picton where her father was stationed. She married in 1951 and began a new life with Romeo Diotte in Sault Ste Marie. Sudbury became their permanent home in 1954 where they raised their twelve children, the large family they both wanted and loved. Carmel joined her husband’s business in the 1970’s. She reluctantly gave up, due to illness, her office job in January 2020 at the age of 89. From a large family herself, 5 older sisters predeceased, Carmel is survived by her older brother, Clovis Desmarais of Ottawa, and younger brother James Desmarais of Ear Falls. Carmel is sadly missed by her children Claire (Eric) Hart of Elliot Lake, Diane (Jack) Suski of Noelville, Lise (Rod) Curran of Guelph, Jim (Thérèse) of Sudbury, Richard (friend Sandra) of Sudbury, Dan (Lise) of Sudbury, Anne Marie (Alan) Kerr of Guelph, Mike (Roberte) of Chelmsford, Pat (Louise) of Sudbury, Jackie (Ken) Bellaire of Chelmsford, Carole (Pierre) O’Bonsawin of Val Caron and Nicole (Marc) Huneault of Sudbury, her 31 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation by invitation will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury. Masks of face coverings are mandatory. A funeral Mass will be celebrated once pandemic restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, Mom has requested to support her grandson Mario’s fight against cancer. Donations can be made (by cheque) to Mario Diotte or by e-transfer at mariodiotte1@hotmail.ca www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
