Charles Clarence Tanner Friday October 29th 2021

It is with deep sadness that the family of Charles Clarence Tanner, 87, of Northwest, announces his passing on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ivy (Wilkie) Tanner.
In his earlier years, Charles worked for the Department of Highways and Hatt’s Sauerkraut plant and then went on to the majority of his life at National Sea Products, starting in 1952 working as a fish cutter for 42 years retiring in 1994. He also served the employees’ union on the negotiating committee for many years.
An avid outdoorsman, his greatest passion was hunting. He loved to share his deer, moose, and rabbit stories, which included many trips to Mutt Nowe’s hunting camp on Nine Mile Lake (Never Tell). The summer time always included many family camping trips in the trailer until 1991 with the purchase of the family cottage on Big Mush-a-Mush Lake, where he and Eileen enjoyed watching their beloved grandchildren grow and enjoy the love of the outdoors. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and had the ability and the tools to fix anything and enjoyed tinkering in his basement. He loved to decorate with his family for Halloween and Christmas, of which he passed on that loved tradition to his children. He even became the “assistant Christmas baker” to Eileen in her last few years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg. To those who knew Charles, he will be greatly missed.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Sandra (William) Skinner, Spectacle Lakes, daughter-in-law, Kathy Tanner, Centre; grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew (Ally), Justine (Matt), and great grandchildren, Susie, Xander and Summer and sister, Marilyn (John) Weagle, Northwest and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eileen and son, Gary, sister, Barbara Spidle and brother, Sheldon.
A gathering to celebrate Charles’ life will be held on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg. Covid-19 restrictions with proof of vaccinations and masks to apply.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Lunenburg County VON; Lunenburg County Ground Search and Rescue or to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
The family of Charles would like to thank the staff of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Medical Unit and Dr. Tarah Millen for their wonderful care. A special thanks to the Lunenburg County VON for their daily visits and chats.
