As a retired Registered Nurse of Ottawa, she devoted over 45 years in her community. Phyllis was a loving mother, daughter, sister, friend and grandmother.
Since 1960 Ms. Mayers was actively involved with the church serving as a choir member, Eucharistic Ministry, and organizer.
She had volunteered extensively with UNICEF, The Barbados Ottawa Association and The Heart and Stroke Foundation. As a result of her many years of service, she received in 1998 the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship; 2001 Volunteer of the Year; and 2002 The Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.
