It is with great sadness that the family announces Gerardo Castrechino’s peaceful passing surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 24, 2021 a few days shy of his 85th birthday.
Son of the late Giacinto and Antoinetta Castrechino. Beloved husband for 61 years to Letizia (nee Cirillo). Proud father of Gino (Mary Ellen), Carlo (Lauren) and Gerry Junior (predeceased). Cherished nonno to Emily, Robbie and Elizabeth. Loving big brother to Marisa (Pietro Verilli predeceased). Sadly missed by brothers-in-law John Cirillo (predeceased) (Maria), Mike Cirillo (Carmen), Durando Cirillo (Sandra) and Tony Cirillo (Grace predeceased). Fondly remembered and adored by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Gerry was born in Vallemaio, Italy in 1936 and moved to Sudbury in 1954 at 18 years of age. It was here in Sudbury where he met his future wife, Letizia, started his long career at INCO and raised three sons. Gerry was a familiar face in the community; you would often find him at the Caruso Club, whether it be volunteering, hanging with “the gang” playing bocce or cards. Also, enjoying Saturday afternoons socializing with friends at the Montessori Club. Gerry was also an avid outdoorsman; spending many summers on Manitoulin Island at camp and enjoying yearly hunting adventures with his friends. Gerry’s most favourite pastime was watching his boys and grandchildren play soccer and hockey. “Mr. C” was always available to volunteer his time managing his boy’s soccer teams and chauffeuring the teams all over the province. Another greatest joy was cheering on the Laurentian Voyageurs Soccer team. He was their biggest fan.
Gerry was a wonderful, kind man and always had a smile on his face. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend their many thanks to the staff on the 7th floor (North Tower) of HSN for their care, compassion and support. Donations would be greatly appreciated to The NEO Kids Foundation or The Ten Rainbow Children’s Foundation.
Friends may call 2-5, 7-9pm Thursday October 28th, 2021 at the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Sudbury. Face masks are mandatory. Private family funeral service, with interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
