Obituary of Jean Basso, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Jean Basso, 72, of New Waterford on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital (Waterford Heights).
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Chalmers ‘Chum’ and Isabel (MacLeod) MacDonald.
Jean was very involved with Calvin United Church as a member of the UCW, IODE, Calvin Session and Board of Trustees. She was employed with Home Hardware for several years. Jean loved spending time with family and going for long drives.
Surviving are sons, Brian (Lynn), Dartmouth, NS, Paul (Hermine), Tyngsboro, MA, and Steven (Barb), Stratford, PE; sisters, Norma (Ken) Wilson, Middle Cape and Sheila (Rollie) White, New Waterford; grandchildren, Samantha, Thomas, Jeremy, Landon and Logan; several nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Basso and a brother, Gordon (Annette).
The family would like to thank the staff of Waterford Heights for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, October 24 at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown with a luncheon to follow in the Duncan Roach Fellowship Room at Calvin Church. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required at both the visitation and funeral service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sobey Cancer Support Centre, Halifax, NS.
