APPEL, Werner Wolfgang Robert – With the love of his life at his side, Werner passed away after at 2-year battle with cancer at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Monday, October 18, 2021 at the age of 85. Beloved husband and best friend of 59 years to Heidi (nee Licklaer). Dear uncle to Stefani and Stephen. Werner is predeceased by his brothers Ingo and Eckhardt and sister-in-law Ursula Gedies. Born in Offenbach, Germany, Werner came to Canada in 1956 and eventually settled in Lindsay where he was well known for his numerous hobbies and talents. He was a successful horse breeder and trainer for 30 years. He was also a beautiful singer and guitar player, sharing his talent in the Kawarthas and with the German Club in Oshawa. A man of many interests, he also loved to golf, canoe and camp and whenever possible, he and Heidi would travel to Europe. Werner will be lovingly remembered by his wife, family, friends and all who knew him. Special thanks to Dr. Petrosoniak, the supportive nurses at Community Care and the staff at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa and the Ross Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion with Werner and our special friend Margaret. In keeping with Werner’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation, Community Care or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
