Obituary of Luella Marguerite Babcock
Luella (Bloom) Babcock
July 6,1931- October 17, 2021
At 90 years young, Luella passed peacefully early Sunday morning, holding her daughter’s hand and listening to her favourite song, ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. She had a beautiful soul with a kind and loving heart.
Most of her life was lived in Dresden, on Trerice St, with her husband of 50 years – the late JL Babcock. She bragged daily about her grandchildren Ashlee & Petey, and kids Robin & (Colleen) and Kim & (Pete). She adored her family and her community. She always went out of her way to make life beautiful for others and so we celebrate her life with absolute respect & endless gratitude.
Her early years were spent on her family farm, in Dawn Twp, with her parents Ila & Lloyd Bloom and 3 sisters: Muriel, Norma and Beverly. She cherished her childhood because she was allowed to seek out her own interests. It is there that her lifelong love affair with cooking & baking began.
THANK YOU Mom / Grandma for being fearless in the kitchen and spoiling us with homemade popsicles & play-doh; mile high turkey sandwiches & Kinder Surprises; cargo ship quantities of chocolate chip cookies and Mississippi Mud; pies, pies and more pies – our choice, any flavour!; mountain high mashed potatoes smothered in gravy – real gravy!!; a perfectly seared steak from a cast iron pan; veggies from the garden and sliced pears from our trees; brunch any day of the week with bacon, bacon and more bacon!; pudding made with cream – chocolate for Robin & vanilla for Kim; canned pickles, pears and beets; the LKCS “Luella Burger” and midnight smorgasbords for our friends; butter, never margarine and 3 pinches of salt, not 1! And we’re just getting started….
Her final years were spent at Fairfield Park, where finally someone cooked for her. THREE CHEERS to her devoted caregivers. It is because of your loving touch and utmost respect that she lived well beyond her expected years with great dignity. You are angels who deserve to be recognized with so much more.
Her funeral service will be private, but Luella would have welcomed donations to the Children’s Aid Society or to the Dresden Food Bank.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Luella
Marguerite
