Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of David John Black announces his passing which occurred on October 4, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Saint John, NB to the late John Henry Black and Mary Inez (Draper) Black on November 19, 1938.
What he saw as his greatest accomplishment was being a loving husband to Anne for 55 years and a father to his four loving children.
He will be immensely missed by his daughter, Kimberly McCormick (Mark McCormick); Annemarie Campbell (Scott); Shelly Keating (Jimmy); and his only son, Mark (Kelsey Williams). He took pride in hearing of all the accomplishments of his family members, especially his grandchildren Ashley Campbell (Josh Wright); Hannah McCormick (Knight McNally); Kourtney Keating (Jared Doughty); Katelyn Keating (Justin Rathje); and only grandson Noah McCormick. His brother Neil (Deborah) of Sherbrooke, N.S., his sister Trudy (Clint) of Mantoloking, N.J. and Mary Jane of Lowell, Mass, as well several loving nephews and nieces across Canada and the U.S.A.
Along with his parents, he is pre-deceased by his loving wife Anne (Murphy), brothers George and Knoll, and sister Anne Phillips, as well as his best buddy Giovanni (Gio) Pascon.
Dad was a devoted Catholic who had great faith and spent his later years serving others. One of the most important life lessons dad instilled in us was the importance of putting others first. Dad was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Anyone who had the pleasure of spending time with dad would describe him as a friend who was always putting the needs of others first and a man who had the biggest heart of gold one could have. Dad especially enjoyed his nightly coffee and conversations at Tim Horton’s with cousin Lana, Normie and friends.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from the hours of 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Spirit Parish (St. Matthew’s Catholic Church) on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Augustine’s Church Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings, all those 12 and older attending visitation and service will be required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination with a piece of government issued ID.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David may be made towards the charity of the donor’s choice.
