Robert Douglas Sloane
March 29, 1939 – October 2, 2021
Doug passed away peacefully at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Picton on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the age of 82 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Survived by his beloved wife Evelyn, devoted father to their sons Gordon and Travis, daughters-by-love Cheryl and Élève and treasured grandson Strummer.
Doug and Evelyn moved to The County in 1995 and immediately became willing volunteers and Doug continued his passion as a very competent and award-winning winemaker. Doug was a keen outdoors man and lifelong Scouter.
Mr. Sloane is resting at the Rushnell Funeral Home – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street West, Picton (613-476-2450). A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at a later date.
Please consider a donation to ‘Back the Build’ at PECMH Foundation, the Loyalist Humane Society or Doctors Without Borders. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at a later date. Thank you to the medical team who gave Doug such marvelous care over the last year.
When the sun is over the yard arm, please have at hand a glass of single malt and read Al Purdy’s Poem ‘At the Quinte Hotel’ or ‘Sea Fever’ by John Masefield. Fair winds and following seas.
