Helen Marr Rose (nee Topper)
Born December 11, 1928 passed away peacefully in her sleep September 28, 2021
Born in Ponoka, Alberta and raised mostly in Oak Ridges, Ontario. Predeceased by her husband Clayton (2008) and son Colin (1972).
Survived by sons David (Patricia) and Donald (Pamela), grandchildren Rebecca (Nathan), Colin (Madison) and Simon, great-grandchildren Arthur, Henry and Clio Rose-Robins and Jolene Peacock.
Helen graduated from Normal School the same time Clayton finished medical school and they settled in Aurora, Ontario and raised her three boys full-time to school age, before returning to teaching kindergarten around Aurora for many years – her classes were almost perpetual winners for best rhythm band in the local music festival – retiring in 1975.
Helen was an avid skier and boater – she followed Clayton to ski all over North America and Europe and joined Craigleith Ski Club in the early 1950’s, where they retired to live full-time in 1983. Clayton always had boats, first power, then sail, and Helen managed to produce amazing gourmet meals from a tiny galley. She loved spending time at the family cottage in Tobermory where she spent countless hours with her 3 beloved grandchildren, hiking, biking and swimming with them. She also loved her martinis and she and Clayton hosted regular dinner parties with their many friends.
Her last few years were spent in Collingwood, where she moved from the ski hill after Clayton died, keeping busy playing bridge and joining a book club before moving to a retirement home and finally Errinrung LTC in Thornbury for her final years.
Missed by her family and friends. A private family gathering will be held. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Affordable Cremation Services, Collingwood.
