Dorothy Dora Cousins , 91
(December 23,1929-September 25, 2021) of Eastern
Passage formerly from Tigo Park, Antigonish passed away suddenly
Saturday. September 25, 2021, in the early evening, at Ocean View
Manor. Her long battle with Parkinson’s,
Dementia and Heart Disease has come to an end.
In her earlier day, she would often be seen walking to work
in the early morning hours at lightening speed to Saint
Martha’s Hospital where she worked for many years on the
house keeping staff, until her retirement. Mom was a very proud former
member of Legion Branch 59 Antigonish, dedicated volunteer at the
Antigonish Food Bank and with several other organizations in
town.
When she wasn’t working, volunteering, or playing
cards she could be found down the hill from her house chatting with
the tourists in Whiddens. She had a very friendly out going
personality ! Everyone always felt welcome at
Mom’s house and she was called Mom by many. Their memories
are her warm-hearted personality and her love of dogs! Mom/Nanny had a
love for Celtic music and highland dancing. Her
eyes would beam with pride watching me (many moons ago) and her
granddaughters highland dance and/or listening to her only grandson
play the fiddle.
Predeceased by her husband Bill (William) in 1976 and rainbow
great grandbaby 2007. And her “Keeper”
and caring roommate in Skyview dearest
Hennie.
Surviving is her pride and joy Debbie who has been a loving
& devoted daughter and her perfect son-in-law Mike. She loved
them both dearly. Also her 4 precious grandchildren
Shellie (Jonathan) Poole Stittsvillie ON, Michael (Natalya) Walsh Cole
Hbr, Lindsay (Bill) Smith, Carolyn (Ted) Greek all from Oromocto
NB. Nan loved each and everyone of you was so
incredibly proud to be called Nanny Cousins! Also her 8
Gems….great grandchildren Jaiden, Logan, Zachary,
Nolan,Joshie (Joshua), Lizzie(Elizabeth Dorothy), Lachlan &
Amelia who she loved more than anything! Surviving as well,
is her niece Lianna Cousins & her wife Sandra Ginnish (aka her
little friend).
Mom’s bff Mary Louise Myatt and former neighbour
(card partner) Lena James. Also, we can’t forget the Walsh
family who always welcomed mom (each and everyone of you) for
delicious Christmas dinners (thank you Betty) and uncountable family
events which Mom loved.
She was a 37-year Breast Cancer
Survivor!
