Obituary of Karl Fretz
Passed away peacefully after a long struggle with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 90.
Much loved husband for 68 years of Lorna and loving father of Brad and Derek. Cherished grandpa of Adin (Shelby), Lauren and Tara, and great grandpa of Caydence.
He will be missed by his brothers Don (Bethene) and Jim (Vicki), brother in law Donald (Janice) French, sister in law Alice (Chuck) Andrews, niece Holly (Derek) Moore, nephew Rod (Ruby) Fretz and their families and his many cousins and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Grant and Viola, in laws Lloyd and Gladys French and sister in law Grace French.
Karl was a Charter Member of the Port Colborne BIC Church and filled many leadership roles at the church. He taught school for 32 years, beginning his teaching in a one room school house at O’Reilly’s Bridge and ended his career in Niagara Falls at Lord Elgin. After retirement , his great joy was working with “old iron” and the Niagara Antique Power Association.
Karl’s family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m.
Due to capacity limits, a private funeral service will be held at Port Colborne BIC Church (10641 Hwy#3 West, Port Colborne) on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. for invited guests only. The family will receive guests at the church for one hour prior to the service. Those wishing to view a livestream of the funeral service may attend the church auditorium at 11 a.m. to view the service. For those unable to attend the livestream, a copy can be made available by contacting the church directly.
(Due to COVID restrictions, attendance will be monitored for capacity, gathering limits will be enforced and facemasks are required for the visitation and live stream event).
Cremation will follow the service.
If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Port Colborne BIC Memorial Fund or Camp Kahquah.
