Flight Lieutenant HE Ed Jones CD RCAF 2021

Flight Lieutenant H.E. “Ed” Jones, CD: RCAF
Flight Lieutenant H.E.
“Ed” Jones, CD: RCAF
25 December 1931
– 15 September 2021
With deep sadness, we
announce the passing of Ed Jones, Berwick, Nova Scotia. Born in
Toronto on 25 December 1931 to Muriel and Harry Jones, he was the
middle child of three. Ed joined the RCAF in 1952 and served for 25
years until 1977. He began his flying career in Comox, BC with 407
Squadron flying in the Lancaster bomber. Subsequent moves were to Sea
Island with the 121 Search and Rescue flying in the Canso, Dakota and
Albatross; EWU course in Sacramento, California; St. Hubert, QC flying
in the C-119 “Boxcar” and CF-100. His final ten years were
in Greenwood with the 405 Squadron, Base Operations and Test
Flight.
Privately, he co-owned
a Bellanca Viking, a high-performance, single-engine aircraft with
retractable gear, enjoying “fighter sweeps” down the
Annapolis Valley for ten years.
Following his
retirement from the RCAF, Ed enjoyed 16 years as the Town Clerk for
the Town of Berwick, from 1978 to 1994.
Ed is survived by his
wife of 64 years, Sonya; their four daughters: Lorraine (Richard)
Vickers, Apex, NC, USA, Leah Jones, Kingston, NS, Sharon Jones,
Antigonish, and Rachel Jones, Somerset, four grandchildren Emily and
Isaac Baker, Daniel and Megan Liengme; his older sister Shirley Firth,
Kingsport; sister-in-law Marilyn Jones, Ottawa, as well as nieces and
nephews. Ed is predeceased by his parents and younger brother Vic
Jones, Ottawa.
Known affectionately
to his family as “the straight arrow”, his sense of humour
and dogged stubbornness to always be in charge (and right!) will
forever be missed but never forgotten. As the co-leader, along with
Sonya, of our “original six”, his passing leaves a void that
will never quite be filled in the same way.
The family extends
sincere thanks to Drs. Klippenstine, Taylor, Hancock, and Surrette,
and to the VON for the care and compassion provided during this
difficult and sad time. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers,
please feel free to donate to the SPCA or animal rescue of your
choice, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the VON.
When I come to the end
of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want
no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set
free.
Miss me a little – but not too long,
And
not with heads bowed low.
Remember the love and great
times
That we all shared, miss me – but let me go.
This is a journey that we all must take,
And each must
go alone.
It’s all part of Nature’s plan,
A step
on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at
heart,
Go to the friends we know.
Bury your
sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me – but let me
go.
