Joyce’s Obituary
Joyce Palmer (Paddock) Atwell-Surette – age 94, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born December 3, 1926 in Gloucester, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Edward M. & Mary Ellen (Bangay) Paddock. Joyce worked a variety of places and jobs throughout her working life, including seasonal fish plant work, working in restaurants as well as at Camp Aldershot and Sunset Terrace and as custodian at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch No. 61), Yarmouth, where she was a Lifetime Member and was also Past-President of the Auxiliary. Joyce loved playing bingo and listening to Newfie music. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Higby, Brooklyn and Sandra (William “Bill”) Graves, Berwick, as well as by a sister, Shirley Snider, Yarmouth, along with 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Dempsey Willard Atwell, as well as by her second husband, Carl Albany Surette; a son, Larry Bruce Atwell; Son in Law, Frank Higby; brothers, George and Thomas Paddock and a great granddaughter Olivia in infancy. In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth and there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
