Franklin Lewis Kobie
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Franklin Lewis Kobie on September 13, 2021 at the age of 87 years.
Frank was a devoted family man and leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife and soul mate, Evelyn Millman.
Frank was predeceased by the first love of his life, Elizabeth Kobie. He also leaves his two sons and daughter who were dear friends, Allan (Monika) Kobie, Keith Kobie and Karen Corothers; his five grandchildren, Lisa Corothers, Amanda Best, Steven (Sara) Corothers, Nicole (Michael Passingham) Kobie and Michelle (Ken) Meldrum; and eight great-grandchildren, Maella, Evia, Jack, Olivia, Camille, Carmen, Sofia and Kayson; his brother, Wayne Kobie and his sister Sharon (Terry) Wendel.
He also leaves his extended family, David and Arlene Millman, Margot Millman (predeceased) and Jasmine Jabari, Peter and Ahn, Aryn, Kein and Rhys Millman.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Minnie Kobie.
Frank was born in Edmonton and had an incredibly successful, diverse and interesting career. He fulfilled his ambition to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Following his retirement from the service, he joined the firm of Deloitte and Touche where he was a partner. Frank then joined Dreco Energy Services as President and CEO. After his retirement, he established his own Consulting Practice. Frank was a corporate director with a number of corporations including Epcor, DBR International, Cardium Service and Supply, and Alberta New Home Warranty. He also served on the Province of Alberta Audit Committee and the Alberta Transportation Safety Board.
Frank devoted a great deal of time to volunteer activities which began when he coached minor baseball and hockey and as a cubmaster. He also served in a volunteer governance role which included Chair and Board member of the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta, Concordia University College of Alberta, the Good Samaritan Society, the Commissionaires –Northern Alberta Division and the Better Business Bureau of Edmonton and Northern Alberta . He also served as a volunteer Director of Edmonton Northlands.
Frank was an avid golfer, enjoyed sports and loved travelling the world. He shared world travels with both Evelyn and Elizabeth – exploring Antarctica, the polar ice cap, Devil’s Island, the Amazon, and the treasures of Egypt and Petra, to name only a few. When at home he cherished spending time with family celebrating family events, sharing in family interests and being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather!
A private family graveside funeral service is scheduled at Rosehill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Health or the charity of your choice.
Sincere gratitude to the staff at Grey Nuns Hospital who went above and beyond in caring for Frank.
