Barbara Ann Trainor 19482021

Barbara Ann Trainor
1948-2021
Barb passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 surrounded
by her loving family, after a courageous battle with
cancer.
She is survived by Cecil Taylor, her husband of 31 years,
daughter Shannon Moore (Tom Messina), stepdaughters Cathy Taylor
Bridges (Trevor Bridges), Krista Taylor (Adrien Pierini), and Jennifer
MacDonald and 5 cherished grandchildren Cameron and Emmy Bratti,
Taylor and Tommy Bridges, and Jessica Legge. Her sister Doris
Hendricken, brother Parnell Trainor (Sandra), mother-in-law Dorothy
Taylor, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Lang (Gordon) and Eleanor Kreplin
(Martin), as well as nieces and nephews will miss her deeply. She is
predeceased by her brother Earl Trainor (Hilda), sister Rose Roach,
and sister-in-law Heather Hill (Bob).
Barb was born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on September 7, 1948,
to parents William and Mary Trainor (deceased). She trekked four
kilometres everyday to attend Johnstons River School. Her love of
learning saw her graduate from Notre Dame Academy in 1965 and Saint
Dunstan’s University in 1969 with a Bachelor of
Science.
Dedicated to education, Barb spent her career teaching math
at Queen Charlotte, East Wilshire, and Bluefield and later developing
curriculum for the P.E.I. Department of Education. Committed to
lifelong learning, Barb served as a member of the Holland College
Board of Governors as well as a member and past President of the
Seniors College of PEI. Barb felt knowledge is power and improves
people’s confidence. Always happy to share her knowledge,
Barb taught gardening and hiking classes at Seniors College after her
retirement. As a trained Master Gardener and former National Gardening
Communities in Bloom judge, many PEI gardeners have benefited from her
advice.
Barb was a true nature lover and filled her days enjoying the
great outdoors. She would often get lost in nature and say
“it is good for the soul”. She could be found
biking, kayaking, hiking or snowshoeing Island trails, or cutting
beautifully carved turns while skiing the mountain tops of Sun Peaks.
She completed 72 kilometres on her bike “Rosie” for
her 72nd birthday .
Confederation Trail was part of her
daily life as a trail user and volunteer. Barb was a member and past
President of Island Trails, the P.E.I representative on the Trail
Partner Advisory Council for the TransCanada Trail, and a member of
the Upton Farm Trustee Board of Directors. Barb wanted all Islanders
to be able to access and experience the beauty of
P.E.I.
Many of Barb’s happiest times were
spent on her 28-hectare property “Misty Meadows” in
Charlottetown overlooking the North River. She tended beautiful flower
and vegetable gardens and forged hiking paths leading to spectacular
sunsets on the property. Cecil and Ms. Boo were her faithful
companions on hikes often under the watchful eye of a resident bald
eagle.
Many a friend or relative who stopped by usually
benefited from her homemade muffins, fresh vegetables or some other
delicious treat before leaving.
Barb’s adventurous spirit took her to places such
as Greece, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Africa, Denmark, Germany, France,
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Portugal, Luxembourg, Ireland often
accompanied by Cecil or lifelong friends. Barb showed her family and
friends how to live like there is no tomorrow.
Barb loved deeply and in turn was deeply loved by her family,
friends, and neighbours. She was extremely proud of her daughter,
stepdaughters, and grandchildren and relished sharing stories of their
accomplishments and antics.
Our deepest thanks to all the nurses and doctors at the P.E.I
Cancer Treatment Centre and Unit 1 at the QEH for the care that she
received throughout her cancer journey.
Resting at Hennessey Cutcliffe Funeral Home, Barb’s
wake will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. With COVID-19
restrictions in place, visitation will be by invitation. Funeral mass
will be celebrated at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church on Monday,
September 13th at 11:00 a.m. by invitation only. Interment in Sherwood
Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to PEI Cancer
Treatment Centre.
