Thelma Ilean (Gill) Pyatt
Thelma passed away peacefully on Monday September 6, 2021 at Bay Haven Care Community comforted by her family. Thelma was born on August 13, 1928 in Collingwood to parents Albert Richard Gill & Edith Victoria (Long) Gill. She is the beloved Mom of Paul Woolner (Shirley), Sandra Woolner (Randy Pyatt), Victoria Woolner (John Broad), Wanda Faye (Woolner) Pyatt & Mark (Woolner) Pyatt. She was predeceased by her son Ralph, husband James Woolner, husband Gordon Pyatt and sisters Evelyn, Whilmina, Lorraine, Shirley, Irene and brother Howard. Also predeceased by Gordon’s children Merilyn Parks, Yvonne Lockhart, Leslie Pyatt & Sherrill McLean. Cherished Grandma of 11 and Great Grandma of 6. She was also loved and remembered by Gordon’s 12 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. Thelma will be dearly missed by her life long friend Audrey Reitsma and niece Julie Miller Lenzo. She will also be remembered fondly by Carrie Pyatt, Donald Parks, Jerry McLean and many nieces and nephews.
Mom wore many hats over the years. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She cherished all these roles. Mom worked at Potts Dairy in Collingwood when she was a young girl delivering milk. She also enjoyed her work at Brydon’s Electric in Collingwood where she developed her love of music and records. Mom also spent many hours in the fields and egg barn while working at the Denbok / Reitsma farm. In 1966 the family moved to Thornbury where mom worked from home as a hairdresser and later worked at Errinrung Nursing Home for many years. She taught Sunday School at Grace United Church and volunteered her time at Errinrung for many years. Mom loved to spend her time gardening, sewing, making quilts, sweaters, handmade outfits or Halloween costumes. Her favourite times were Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas. She loved to decorate their house on Alfred Street for these for these special occasions.
Mom had many health struggles over the years, but seemed to make the best of it. However, the last bout with cancer 7 years ago, changed her quality of life and she said on many occasions she was ready to be at peace. Rest now Mom, you deserve it.
The family is extremely grateful for the kind, loving and professional care Mom received from the staff at Bay Haven Care Community. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home, Collingwood. A private family service will be held at Trinity United Church, Collingwood. Due to public health restrictions, attendance for the service will be by invitation only. Interment to follow at Trinity United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace United Church, Thornbury or Beaver Valley Outreach would be appreciated by her family.
