It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Alexander announces his passing on August 23,2021at the age of 79. Joe will be lovingly remembered by all his family and friends.
Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Sheila of 34 years,and parents John and Edith. He leaves to mourn his two sisters Meryl and Valerie and his family, 3 children,Sons Joe(Shannon), Jim(Tracy),and daughter Leona(Derek), 8 grandchildren, Sara (Phil), Tristan(Brad), Chris, Tyler(Mary), Riley(Kristin), Carly(Jaran), Cody and Jada. He also had 4 great grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, Charlee and Madden.
They raised their family in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In 1980 Joe was promoted into senior management and transferred from Winnipeg to Edmonton to start up Derksen Plumbing and Heating. It was then the family moved and set roots in Alberta. All dad’s children got married and had children of their own.
In the 1990’s both mom and dad took up employment with the Yellowhead School Division and moved out to Edson as “empty nesters” where Joe finished his working career.
He was extremely proud of all his kids and made mention of it every time we would see him. He enjoyed all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and taught them all how to play crib.
They will all carry on his love of the game and his sense of humor. Dad loved a good party and often times was the “life of the party”, back in the day, sometimes mom would have something to say about that. Dad was a man of honesty, integrity and hard working and would always give to those less fortunate. For those of you lucky enough to have known him I am sure you would agree he was a tough act to follow.
Later in life dad met Karen Gobielle and was fortunate to share his last years with her in their apartment playing the spoons and doing many jigsaw puzzles. They always had a laugh about something and looked after each other and both cherished the time they had.
Joe…dad…grandpa…great grandpa…friend…is in heaven and in Sheila’s arms now. He will be missed dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 7, 2021 at Park Place Funeral Home, 51 Broadway Blvd. Sherwood Park,Alberta T8H 2C1
