Obituary
Ricky Scott Meeches
Ricky was born on November 7th, 1971 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He lived in Long Plain First Nation his entire life. Ricky began his education at the Long Plain Day School in 1975 and briefly attended Fort la Reine School in Portage la Prairie before the construction of Long Plain School commenced. He attended Portage Collegiate High School and was enrolled in the upgrading program at the Mature Grade twelve in Long Plain. Ricky was an extraordinary person; he had this very special charisma that shined so brightly, and he charmed people and many returned his affections towards him. Ricky had a great immense love for his grandchildren and always had hugs and kisses for them. He was a very gifted person, who had a great memory and enjoyed memorizing people’s license plates numbers for a hobby. He was also very good at remembering dates, and the dates that he remembered would pertain to anything, whether it was history or any significance towards him, that was his thing. Ricky was a chauffeur for so many people in Long Plain; he got to travel to many places in Canada. He shared so many stories with his family about his excursions that he went on.
Ricky had a love for music, and he taught himself to play guitar when he was in his early teens. As teens, he and William Benn would often jam and play tunes. He would often call Rez Radio to dedicate his favorite songs and often talked about the conversations that he would have with Ralph Frances regarding Rock and Roll History. Before Ricky got his license his favorite pastime would be to walk to town every Tuesday to go to the library and read. Then, to 7-11 for his favorite pop, “Pepsi” and to KFC for a toonie meal.
Ricky was pre-deceased by his parents; Ross Carl Woods and Bessie Meeches, sister; Laura Woods, brothers; Gary Wayne Meeches and Darrell Curtis Woods and niece Skylar Elise Meeches, maternal grandparents: Joseph Meeches and Bertha Hobson, paternal grandparents; Charlie Woods and Laura Smoke.
Ricky leaves to mourn his brother, Kingsley (Belinda) Woods, sisters; Robin (Tim) Meeches and Joann (Dean) Woods, Auntie Shirley Baziel of Calgary.
