Passed away peacefully at Garry J. Armstrong Long Term Care Residence in Ottawa on August 28, 2021. She was in her 98th year. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert Ray Derick, of Lennoxville, QC, her parents Leon and Laura George of Knowlton and Mansonville, QC, and her brothers Grant and Graham. She is survived by her children Brian (Cathie), and Jane (Steven Heiter), all of Ottawa, and John (Kim Wilmot) of Hopewell, NB, sister Kay George of Ottawa, grandson Philip Derick of Ottawa, and many nieces and nephews.
An educator and artist, she was a graduate of Bishop’s University (’43), was a teacher and principal in Mansonville and Knowlton, QC, and was one of Canada’s first female Customs Officers. A talented and versatile artist, accomplished in painting and textiles, she leaves a large body of work. She was renowned for her kindness, intelligence, sense of humour, and dedication to family, friends, and colleagues, and will be sorely missed.
A private Memorial Service will be held in Ottawa, followed by a private interment at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Noyan, QC.
Family thanks to the wonderful and dedicated staff at Garry J. Armstrong. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
