Obituary of Mervyn Walton
(May 1943 – August 2021)
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Mervyn ‘Merv’ Barry Walton, who passed away peacefully at home with family on the 22nd of August 2021.
Beloved husband of the late Jennifer, adored Dad of Craig, Jemma, James, father-in-law of Jessica, and Grandad of Devon, Jennifer, and Matthew. Merv was predeceased by his Mum and Dad, Grace and Arthur Walton.
Merv was born in Coventry, England. He apprenticed as a toolmaker, receiving the Oath of a Freeman of the City of Coventry in 1964. He worked at Rolls Royce Aerospace for over 20 years, on world-renowned projects, such as Concord and the R.A.F Harrier jet.
In 1985, Merv and his family emigrated to Canada, where he worked for Fleet/Magellan Industries until his retirement in 2008. Merv had a passion for Aerospace Engineering. He enjoyed and believed in conveying his knowledge and skills to others and received an award of excellence from NITAC in 1994.
However, nothing was more important to him than family and friends. He was simply the greatest Dad, Grandad, and friend that anyone could ever wish for and always put others first, he was a father figure to more than his three children. Since retiring he enjoyed time in both Canada and England. It seemed he already had or made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed a social pint and people often gravitated to engage in conversation with him. Merv loved playing snooker, fishing, and scuba diving. He was a member of the Fort Erie Underwater Recovery Unit for many years. He also enjoyed watching Rugby Union and Football, especially the England national team.
Merv will be sadly missed by so many.
