It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Lynne Burns on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the age of 67, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lynne was born in December of 1953. She was born in Ponoka, grew up in Drayton Valley, and was the third child born to John and Ruby Hurley.
Lynne is survived by her loving husband, and best friend Doug of 33 years; and is the dearly loved mother of Taylor (Sarah) and Connor, and loved her furry friend Frodo Baggins. She also leaves to mourn her brothers, Patrick, Levi (Elizabeth); sister, Vicki (Peter); nephew, Marc (Megan); niece, Kayla (Greg); and beloved grand-nieces, Charlie and Penny; aunt, Hazel; Doug’s siblings, Donna, Karen, Gary (Jessie), Dennis (Hi), Larry; step son, Kyle (Jen); nieces and nephews, Karen, Mark (Darlene), Rhonda (Chris), Karli (Hosh), Andrea (Jordy), Bree, and Dane; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Lynne was predeceased by her parents; sister in-law, Nancy; brother in-law, Jim; nephews, Johnny and Brent; and furry friend, Ryder.
Lynne was a dedicated educator after graduating from the University of Alberta, teaching in Tomahawk and Drayton Valley. She then became an interior designer after going back to school at Mount Royal. She worked at Alberta Education in Student Evaluation while also continuing to work in interior design. Later, she taught briefly at both Paul Kane and Bellerose before finishing her teaching career working for Edmonton Public at Stratford, Jasper Place, and Victoria School of the Arts. She taught IB History and Social Studies.
Lynne had many friends who can speak to how her sense of humour and creative and artistic talents shone throughout her life. Lynne loved decorating, baking, cooking, reading, playing cards (especially bridge), and gardening. She was a lover of wine, good food, and especially hosting friends.
The Burns family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Dr. Michael Chu and the exceptional, caring staff at the Cross Cancer Institute.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Chapel, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, AB. Please wear flowery, joyous attire in remembrance of Lynne’s flair for bright, colourful clothing and jewelry.
The Celebration is open to any and all family or friends, however, the family would please request that those attending be vaccinated as well as wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to the St. Albert Botanic Park.
