Barbara “Bobbie or Mimi” Bingham (Hutchison) Fraser is finally at rest. She passed on August 11, 2021 at age 89.
She was born in Ottawa to Dr. George and Lillian Hutchison on July 1, 1932. While studying Physical Education at McGill, she met her husband James “Jim” Fraser. She is survived by their 5 children – Chris, Heather, Jennifer, Alex and Spencer (Nicole); 8 grandchildren – Sophie, Trevor (Alison), Karina, Brandon, Marie, Camille, Amy and Will; 1 great-grandchild – Kai; her brother George (Marilyn); many nieces and nephews; and predeceased by her husband Jim and sister Ruth.
Following graduation, she married, and settled in Town of Mount Royal to start her family. Mum enjoyed championing causes, starting conversations, and introducing new hobbies and ideas into people’s lives.
Family life included active involvement in the Junior League, a menagerie of pets, athletic endeavours, numerous camping adventures in the family Econoline van, before these were blended into summer cottage life at Sixteen Island Lake, where the family has gathered for the last 50 years.
While volunteering at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, she began to collect green glass and explore China Painting. She co-founded the Canadian Organization of Porcelain Artists (COPA) and devoted herself to promoting and teaching this art form for over 20 years.
The family moved to her hometown in 1978 where she expanded her activities to include political campaigns, tourism promotion, and promoting the newcomers club. Mimi enjoyed spending time with family and friends – and instilling a ‘get cracking’ mindset into all.
A family graveside ceremony at Beechwood Cemetery is being planned for a future date. Condolences, great memories and fun photos of “Bobbie or Mimi” can be shared on the Funeral Home website.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Barbara Bingham Fraser Hutchison Wednesday August 11th 2021..
