It is with heavy hearts and great sadness our family announces the passing of Ed Perry, a loving husband, dad and grandpa, on Sunday August 8, 2021 at the age of 89.
Ed was born in the McLennan, Alberta hospital on February 3, 1932. He was raised in Donnelly, Alberta where his father was a barber and the family operated a pool hall and confectionary store, which was turned into the dance hall on Saturday nights. When the hungry thirties came business went down and the family moved to a homestead farm where they lived until 1945. The family, that was still at home, then moved to Dawson Creek, BC. Ed was now on his own and went to work in a saw mill in Groundbirch, BC and then became a sawyer in Burns Lake, BC where he lived for 2 years. His parents had moved to Edmonton where his dad had a barbershop. He stayed with them and worked for Zedler Lumber making windows and doors for housing. At the age of 18, he started working for Poole Construction, now PCL, where he remained for 32 years.
In 1954 he met Vi at a New Years Eve dance in Jasper Place. They were married a year later on December 27, 1955. They had 3 children, Susan, Randy and Carson. Ed’s children all married and his family of 5 grew to 19. Ed worked in many different towns and cities with PCL. He worked hard and partied even harder. His hard work took a toll on his body and he had to retire in 1980. But he didn’t slow down. He always kept busy. Mom used to say ‘I don’t have to move, Ed builds me a new kitchen every 5 years’. He always had a dream to build his own home. That dream became a reality. In 1994 they bought a lot in Alberta Beach and built their own house. He still didn’t relax. Anyone who was in need of a reno or helping hand, Ed was there.
He also loved to travel. They camped with family and friends for years and made many trips south of the boarder. Vegas was always a popular holiday spot.
Ed is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Viola Perry, 3 Children; Susan (Don), Randy (Russanne) and Carson (Holly). 7 grandchildren; Cory, Jason, Sarah, Amanda, Tara, Nevada, and Wyatt. 4 great grandchildren; Anthony, Penny, Griffin and Jack. He will also be remembered by his sister Marielle, sister in laws; Elizabeth, Josephine, Lorraine, Eva and brother in law Norbert as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Edmond will be held at 1:00 PM, at St. George’s Anglican Church, 10029 99 Ave Fort Saskatchewan AB T8L 1R6.
