Obituary
McCulloch, Agnes Deas (nee Waters)
May 22, 1925-Aug 5, 2021
It is with immense love and sadness, but also with many happy memories, that we say goodbye to our beloved Agnes Deas McCulloch (nee Waters) – a wonderful Mum, Granny, Great-Granny, Aunt and friend. Agnes was pre-deceased in January 1997 by the love of her life, her husband Robbie (Robert Fitzgerald McCulloch) of almost 50 years. Born in Renton Scotland, daughter of Robertson Waters and Isabella Nelson Cullen, sister to the late Elizabeth (William) Tannock. Agnes married Robbie in 1950, and had 3 children, Isobel, Nancy and Robert. In 1967, with great optimism, the family immigrated to Canada and Agnes and Robbie enjoyed many happy years with their growing family and friends. She spent many happy times with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embraced extended family members, and created many enduring friendships. Agnes was a kind, open and generous person who cared greatly about everyone. For many years Agnes worked as a part time caretaker at Otonabee Valley School and also took great pride in her volunteering activities.
She was a hospital volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for more than 20 years and a proud member of Mark St United Church and the UCW. She enjoyed the friendship of the ladies of her Quilting Group, crafting Quilts, Prayer Shawls, sewing bath mittens for stroke patients, assisting with many Rummage sales, baking her famous Empire Biscuits and knitting and crocheting countless items for her family.
Agnes loved her home, garden and her little car and had her teapot ready at all times for whomever came to her door, she was the beating heart of every family event, and was happiest when sharing time with her family. We will miss her wit and wisdom, her grace and elegance as well as her beautiful appearance and smile. She showed us the meaning of unconditional love, unselfishness and devotion.
Agnes was the loving mother of Isobel Simmons (Bob), Nancy Johnson (Wayne) and Robert McCulloch (Diana), cherished grandmother of Angela Beckford (Bill), Andrew Simmons (Trudy), Leanne Eby (Shaun), Scott Johnson (Amanda), Mark Johnson (Vanessa), Craig Johnson (Ashley), Rob McCulloch (Melanie) and Bhreagh McCulloch (Jeff). Adored Great Granny to Katherine and Owen Beckford, Tyler and Jacob Simmons, Peyton and Ben Surowiec, Anderson and Max Eby, Brayden and Callie Johnson, Rowan and Maggie Johnson.
Agnes will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland.
In recent times, Agnes and her family were most grateful for the extraordinary care and compassion from Dr. Brendan Hughes and all the remarkable staff at Lakefield Extendicare. Friends will be received at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE 2510 Bensfort Rd Peterborough on Friday August 13, 2021 at 12:00 pm until 2:00pm. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, all guests are required to wear a face covering. Funeral Service and Interment will be held privately with the family. In memory of Agnes, plant a flower or tree, or perform a random act of kindness towards others. “A Mum’s hug last long after she lets go”
