Gordon Rancier

Obituary of Gordon Rancier
Gordon James Rancier was born May 23, 1928. He passed away peacefully at CapitalCare Grandview on March 5, 2021 at the age of 92. Gordon’s life was centered around his family and education either for himself or for others. Gordon started his career teaching in rural areas of Alberta then moved to Ottawa where he took a position with the Government working with Northern Affairs. He received his PhD in Education in 1971. His love for Alberta brought him back where he continued in education as Superintendent in Fort McMurray and then the Strathcona School Board. After retiring he found himself missing the education world and became an Educational Consultant for rural Alberta. Gordon had a passion for wood working, he was always looking for a new project to build, from a small bowl to finishing a basement.
Gordon married Elsie Wilson on August 17, 1949. Gordon was predeceased in 2015 by his wife of 66 years. Gordon is survived by his four children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Frances in Pasadena, CA (husband Jerry, daughter Terri, granddaughter Kira); Linda in Edmonton (sons Ryan, Darren and daughter in law Jen, granddaughter Ava); Douglas in Calgary (wife Kam); and Heather in Calgary (husband Todd).
Cremation has occurred and a small grave-side service will take place at the Killam Cemetery on August 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The family would like to ask those planning to attend to please social distance.
REMEMBER ME
Speak of me as you have always done.
Remember the good times, laughter, and fun.
Share the happy memories we’ve made.
Do not let them wither or fade.
I’ll be with you in the summer’s sun
And when the winter’s chill has come.
I’ll be the voice that whispers in the breeze.
I’m peaceful now, put your mind at ease.
I’ve rested my eyes and gone to sleep,
But memories we’ve shared are yours to keep.
Sometimes our final days may be a test,
But remember me when I was at my best.
Although things may not be the same,
Don’t be afraid to use my name.
Let your sorrow last for just a while.
Comfort each other and try to smile.
I’ve lived a life filled with joy and fun.
Live on now, make me proud of what you’ll become.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Gordon
