We remember their love when they can no longer remember.
Evelyn Margaret Sullivan passed away peacefully at Shannex Losier Hall, Nursing Home on Wednesday August 4, 2021 at the age of 94. Born in Chatham Head, New Brunswick she was the daughter of the late John Sullivan and Catherine (Woods) Sullivan. She was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church. Evelyn was very strong in her faith and lived it every day.
Evelyn is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Billy & Kathleen Sullivan’s children: Mary, John, Gerald, Eileen, Ann, Paul, Sean, Joan, Margaret, Lisa, Brent, Carolyn, Carol, Janet and their families. Cecelia & Hilton O’Neill’s children: Pat, Cathy, Noreen, Bill and their families. Evelyn was very supportive of her nieces and nephews in many of their activities and was quick to capture them on film.
Evelyn is predeceased by her brothers: Dennis, Francis, Billy, Father John and Raymond and her sisters: Cecelia (Hilton) O’Neill and her twin, Sister Eileen, her nephew Jim O’Neill and niece Geraldine Sullivan.
Evelyn was a retired Registered Nursing Assistant (RNA) and worked at Mount Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home for over thirty years before her retirement. She was a supportive friend to many and spent most of her life volunteering and giving to others. She was active right up until her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The transition for Evelyn was difficult as she was always “on the road”.
In her younger years, Evelyn was a member of the Chatham Head Bombers Softball Team and Saint Patrick’s Parish Plays.
Evelyn was an energetic volunteer in the community with the Chatham Head CWL, Mount Saint Joseph’s Activity Program, Miramichi Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels program, and the Pastoral Care Committee (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary). She was a member of the Registered Nurses’ Association, Chatham Head CWL, Nelson Friendly Senior Citizens Club and the Zooms bowling team. She was also an avid card player and participated in many “spirited” cards games at home, with relatives, many dear friends and different senior’s organizations.
Evelyn was famous for her homemade Sweet Loaf and “Hot Rolls” and delivered them to many friends and relatives at Christmas and to celebrate special occasions. She loved to knit and shared her talent by creating many hand crafted sweaters and afghans for family and friends.
She was a diehard fan of the Chatham Head Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. We have now positioned a Great Fan in the right place.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 7, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Father John Keoughan officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the, Chatham Head CWL, Chatham Head Oldtimers Back to School Fund, Miramichi Food Bank, a donation of one’s choice or take time to visit someone, share food, play a card game and realize that your goodness is your greatness.
