It’s with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Herman Ervin Leicht on July 27, 2021 at the age of 89. Mourning his loss, he leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Doreen; son Kevin (Deana); daughter Gail; grandchildren: Kiefer, Paxton and Sydney; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends. He passed peacefully in hospital, having battled with chronic pain, cancer and heart disease. Herman spent most of his life in Athabasca, having come in 1949 to live and work with his sister Helen and brother-in-law Tommy in their business. Over his years in town he contributed to civic life in many ways, including as a Kinsman, business owner, town councillor, and as mayor. Herman was instrumental in bringing Athabasca University to the community. He was a man of many passions, including music, photography, painting, and woodwork. He was a loving and affectionate man who loved to sing and laugh.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Athabasca Hospital who took such good care of Herman and the family, particularly in his last days.
