Mary’s Obituary
Cunningham, Mary Ida – 83, of Barrington, passed away on July 25, 2021, another angle was called to Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 11, 1937 she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Bessie Cunningham. After graduating Clark’s Harbour School, Mary decided to follow in her father’s footsteps of Military Service and joined the R.C.A.F. in 1956. She went to Saint-Jean, Quebec to complete basic training and then on to Aylmer, Ontario to train as an A.M.A. (Medical Assistant). After training, she proudly served in Rockcliff, Ontario, 4 Fighter Wing in Rheinmunster, Germany and Cold Lake, Alberta. Mary returned to civilian life in 1963 and moved to Halifax where she’d race her little imported Simca Convertible to the office across the bridge to ensure Dr. Gordon didn’t catch her being late for work. A few years later, she married Ronald Jenkins whom she had met in the Service. They moved to Smithville and later to Port Clyde. After their divorce, she moved to Shelburne where she lived for many years before finally moving to Barrington. Mary worked for several years at R.D. Stoddard’s Wholesalers in Port Clyde where she was well liked and known for the many jokes and pranks that she loved to play on co-workers. Later, she worked for Redding and King Chartered Accountants of Shelburne and then moved to L.G. Trask Insurance where she worked up until retirement. Mary enjoyed summers with her sister, Sylvia camping at Smoke Point, conversations with her sisters, Geneva and Joyce, outings with Carol and Marietta and spending time with family and friends whenever she could. Besides her parents, Kenneth and Bessie Cunningham, Mary was predeceased by her brother, Bub (Kenneth Jr.); sister, Joyce Kenney and her fur babies (Snoopy, Pippy, Benji and Bridget) which she loved to the moon and back. Mary leaves behind sisters, Geneva Cunningham of Barrington and Sylvia Huntley of Upper Tantallon to mourn along with many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly for her kind caring heart. Mary left this world, but she will not be forgotten. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. In keeping with Mary’s wishes there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund, SPCA or any charity of choice.
