Clayton Carter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clayton George Carter, age 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Green’s Pond, Newfoundland on January 31, 1933, he was the son of the late James and Maude (Keeping) Carter. Clayton was employed with CN Marine and later Marine Atlantic retiring in 1985 after almost 40 years of service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney. Clayton was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Dad’s favorite place in the whole world was his cottage in New Campbellton where he spent his summers.
Left to mourn is his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Blackmore) Carter, his daughter Debbie (Blair) Forrest, North Sydney, his son Clayton (Linda) Carter, New Campbellton, his grandchildren Amy, Christopher, Michelle, Erin, Deanna and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Jimmy, his brothers Ches Carter and Eric Carter, sisters Alice Oakley and Eva Golding.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
