Allen Wayne Stokes June 30th 2021

Allen Wayne Stokes passed away June 30, 2021 at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 23, 1961 in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario. Growing up, Al played hockey and music–he later said listening to his uncle’s Dark Side of the Moon LP was a transformative musical discovery. He had a love of learning, a passion for the sciences, and enjoyed reading comic books late into the night with a flashlight under the covers.
Al came to British Columbia in the spring of 1980 and made it his home. He remembered the first time he saw the Pacific Ocean, sitting for hours in Horseshoe Bay watching the water on the horizon. In 1983 he met the love of his life, Kim, in Nanaimo. Together they had three children: Tristan, Melanie and Carla-Jean. Al moved his young family to the Okanagan in 1986. He worked in a variety of different roles over the years, but his favorite was playing bass guitar with the band Slack Jack in the 1990s.
Al is survived by his wife Kim, his brothers Bill (Kim) Stokes and Edwin Bushby, his children Tristan, Melanie and Carla-Jean (Jarrett), and his special baby girl Freyja Starrak–in addition to six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Margaret Jones, in November 2009.
The Stokes family would like to thank the wonderful staff, nurses, and doctors of the Cancer Clinic at VJH, who are truly the best. They are also grateful to their family GP, Dr. Iredia, as well as to their caring neighbours for all the kindness shown during the last 18 months.
There will not be a funeral, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Allen Wayne Stokes June 30th 2021..
