Aniceto Vivar Jr.
October 16, 1940 – June 28, 2021
On June 28, 2021 at 6:30 PM, Aniceto DelRosario Vivar, Jr. (“Papang”) passed away at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
He is predeceased by his parents, Aniceto, Sr. and Petrona, his only son, Roy, and his siblings, Guillermo “Emong”, Flordeliza Monzon (Manuel Monzon, Sr.), Josefino “Jojo”, Edelmira Fernandez “Edel” (Edgardo Fernandez) and Azucena “Zeny”. He is survived by his wife, Felicidad Alvarez Vivar (“Mamang”), his only daughter, Dana Vivar (Alvin Pamandanan), and his grandchildren Daniel and Alanah, his sister, Proserfina Reyes “Baby” (Francisco Reyes) and sister-in-law, Soledad Vivar “Soly”.
Papang was born on October 16, 1940 in Caridad, Cavite, Philippines. Papang was always on the Honour Roll throughout his school years where he went to Ladislaw Diwa Elementary School and Cavite National High School. Papang was baptized as a member of the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo) on December 3, 1966. Shortly after, he married hi wife on June 17, 1967. He held church offices as Deacon and Area Leader while he was in the Philippines and as a Deacon here in Canada. Papang supported his family working as a Civilian Employee at Fort San Felipe Naval Shipyard, in Cavite City.
Papang was sponsored by his sister-in-law, Ligaya Alvarez, and migrated to Canada in 1974. His wife and children followed shortly in January, 1975. Upon arrving to Winnipeg, Manitoba, they purchased their new home in the Maples where they raised their family. He took oath as a Canadian Citizen together with his wife and children in 1978.
Papang worked at Emprie Iron Wokrs from 1975 up to his retiremenet in 2005. He ventured to British Columbia and worked for Empire’s sister company but decided to return after three months as he did not want to be away from his family.
Papang enjoyed gardening, watching television (especially wrestling and baseball), visiting his wife at Fred Douglas Lodge Nursing Home and driving his grandchildren to school – even though the schools were within walking distance. This is where his grandchildren grew to love the “oldies” music as that was all he ever played on the car radio.
Papang’s one regret was not being able to sponsor any of his siblings to Canada. He was thankful, however, when we was able to sponsor his niece, Emma Avila, to Canada.
Papang’s viewing (lamay) will be on July 9, 2021 at Mosaic Funeral home. The final internment will be held on July 12, 2021 at 2 PM where his final resting place will be at Brookside Cemetery.
Thank you to everyone how has sent their messages, regards and condolences.
