Alex Stang 2021

STANG, Alex
January 1925 – June 2021
Alexander Leopold Stang passed away peacefully at the age of ninety-six on June 26, 2021 at the Covenant Health Youville Home in St. Albert. Alex was born January 1, 1925 in a small pioneer sod farmhouse southeast of Macklin, Saskatchewan to parents Michael and Emelia (Haag) Stang. The family would grow into a family of fourteen living children. In 1943, the family moved to Alberta to farm in the Daysland area. Alex then moved to Edmonton in 1949. There he met Millie Fischer at a dance. They instantly fell in love and were married in February 1951 at Sacred Heart Church. Six children followed, then fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Alex worked for MacDonalds Consolidated for 36 years until his retirement in 1985.
Alex was very gentle natured and never seemed to get angry at anyone or anything. He had a good life, shared with his beloved wife of nearly 70 years. It was a very family-centered life. He and Millie loved each other and were deeply committed to their family and to their church. Throughout their lives, Alex and Millie continued to enjoy the company of their brothers and sisters.
Alex is survived by two brothers: Peter and Mark; children: Rita (Rick Strauss), Dennis (Diane Cook), Laura, Gerald (Doreen Linnert), Sheila (Rick Rudyk), and Daren (Kim Bondarchuk); grandchildren: Jeremy, Jocelyn, Travis, Jessica, Colin, Matthew, Lee, Emily, Micah, Justin, Dylan, Jordan and Sarah; and twelve great grandchildren: Tristan, Evan, Khloe, Rae-Lynn, Ally, Dustin, Alex, Taylor, Cole, Dominic, Ellie and Norrin. Alex was predeceased by his wife Millie, twelve of his siblings and granddaughter Melanie Jackson.
Alex will be missed dearly by his six children who visited him regularly right up to his passing away.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Youville Home for the excellent and loving care provided to Alex.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 11828 – 85 Street, Edmonton.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, 8421 – 101 Avenue, Edmonton, AB., T6A 0L1 or to the Youville Home, 9A St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert, AB., T8N 1K1.
