James Jim Fraser MacLeod Saturday June 26th 2021

MacLeod, James “Jim” Fraser – age 76, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on June 26, 2021. Born in Yarmouth on July 4, 1944, he was a son of the late Neil and Alma (Crosskill) MacLeod. He was predeceased his daughter April in December 2008. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
At 14 years of age, he started his pharmacy career, delivering medications for Central Pharmacy on his bicycle. He graduated with his pharmacy degree from Dalhousie University and started his 50-year career as a pharmacist and retired in December 2016. He was co-owner and operator of Spears & MacLeod Pharmacy where Jim wrote the book on customer service.
Jim served two terms as town councillor in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was re-elected to town council in 2012, 2016 and 2020. His many roles as councillor included being the deputy mayor and was on several committees. He was a long-standing member of the Planning Advisory Committee, often serving as its chair. Over the years he was active in the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, at one point serving as president. Jim was also a great supporter of the YMCA and served a term as president.
Jim was a fixture in the Town of Yarmouth. Many generations of kids and adults like to watch Jim in the Seafest Parade riding his penny-farthing bicycle. On any given day, you could find Jim walking and chatting to the people he met, taking photos and sharing them with others.
Christmas held a special place in Jim’s heart, he loved the way his wife Dawn decorated their home for everyone to enjoy. He also loved his beach house in Pembroke named after his dog, “Sam’s Place.”
