Obituary of Elwood Dopking
Peacefully at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital on Monday, June 21, 2021, in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Sylvia (nee Potter) and loving father of Bruce (Darlene), Michael, Cheryl (Larry Bendyk) and Todd (Coralee). Cherished grandfather of Jamie, Jennifer, Jasmine, Jessica, Tia, Deidra, Matthew and Lucas. Also missed by several great grandchildren. Son of the late Bruce and Norma Dopking. Dearly missed by his sisters Mary and Lorna and step-sisters Joy and Bonnie. Predeceased by his sisters Jean, Rose and Bessie, brothers Bill and Charlie and step-brother Billy. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Elwood “Doppy” Dopking served with the Ernestown Fire Department from 1953 until his retirement in 1995. Doppy was appointed as a Volunteer Fire Chief in 1959 and became Ernestown Townships first full time Fire Chief on August 1, 1971. He will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place. A private family Graveside Service will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will celebrate Elwood’s Life at a later date. For those desiring, memorial donations to the L&A Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main Street, Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0.
