Cecil W Smith 1934 2021

Obituary of Cecil W. Smith
Born at home on October 14, 1934, all 14.2lbs of him. Mother, Pearl (nee Mason) of Country Harbour and James Smith of Westville.
Pre-deceased by sisters: Thirza and Jean and brother: Robert (Bobby)
Survived by wife Jeannette (nee Hiltz), Son Douglas (Reta), Pine Tree, Step-Daughter Heidi (Michael), Lochaber, Grandsons Jordan (Jessica), Evan (Teya) and Daniel, Great Grandchildren Nathan, Jacob and Emilia, Brother James (Patricia), Eden Lake, Sister Janet (Ottawa), Special Cousins Nancy and Rod Rushton, and several nieces and nephews. He was also blessed with amazing neighbours Allison and Ann Munro.
Cecil lied about his age in order to join the Navy. He served his country aboard the steamer class frigates and supply boats in the boiler rooms. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his Navy career, he spent many years in the plumbing and heating business and was mentor to his son, Doug.
He loved to play music with the love of his life, Jeannette. Many many weekends were spent with a house full of friends, family, music, laughter and countless stories.
He always said Jeannette ‘saved him’.. her kind and gentle ways tamed him and “made him a better person”. He was her fierce protector and during the past few years, her devoted care-giver until she entered long term care in January when his own health prevented him from caring for her any longer. His sole purpose in life was to keep her home as long as he could, and he accomplished that with lovingkindness and steadfastness.
He was an international square dance caller and was one of the 100 pipers who marched across the Canso Causeway when it opened in 1955.
His greatest source of love and pride were his three grandsons who will be lost without his counsel and guidance.
Rest easy ‘Smitty’…you’ve fought the good fight and now is your time to sing in the angel band.
There will be no visitation or funeral as per his request.
The family would like to acknowledge the incredible care he received from Nurse Next Door, Palliative Care and Maritime Oddfellows Home. May God bless you all for your caring and professionalism.
