Obituary
Theresa Marie BORCZON (“Terry”) April 30, 1950 – June 8, 2021
It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Terry Borczon (nee Midghall), peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Walter, her daughter Erin (Kyle), her son Ryan, as well as her 2 granddaughters, Leia and Avery. She also leaves behind her sister Jody (David), brother Kevin (Woody), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Terry’s reach extended far beyond her family to the many colleagues and students she influenced over the course of her career in education. She was a very passionate teacher, and worked in many roles for the Toronto Catholic District School Board. She began as a classroom teacher, followed by phys-ed consultant for the board, and moved on to administration as both a Vice Principal, and a Principal. The highlight of her career was her final role as educator at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, where she shared her years of experience and knowledge teaching prospective teachers. Terry’s retirement from OISE marked the end of a very rich career of which she was extremely proud.
Terry’s other passion was for sports. Her lifelong love of tennis started at a young age, and she could be found on the tennis courts most days, whether she was working on her Ontario ranking, or teaching tennis as a summer job. Her most successful student was perhaps her husband Wally, as she taught him everything he knows about tennis, and they could be seen on the tennis court together for hours. Sometimes she even let him beat her. She also enjoyed playing both squash and tennis at the Cricket Club with her many friends. When she realized that she was competing with golf for Wally’s time and attention, she decided to take up that sport as well. She excelled at this too, and had two hole in ones during her golfing days. Wally has had none.
Terry had so many admirable qualities that it is impossible to sum them up. She was a dedicated, trustworthy and loyal friend, whose friendships meant everything to her. She was always busy with plans for bridge nights, girls weekends, shopping, dinners, and trips to the casino. She was incredibly determined, courageous, resilient, and lived life to the fullest. She recognized passion and potential in others, and encouraged both of her children to seek out careers that incorporated their talents of music and tennis. She also introduced her family to Thunder Beach, which became our Shelter Cove.
We would like to thank the Palliative Care team at Sunnybrook, in particular Dr. Selby, and Music Therapist Jill Hedican, for their excellent care during her final days. We would also like to acknowledge the incredible support from Dr. Kirshen, and nurse Jenny from the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. Plans for celebrating Terry’s life will be forthcoming.
