Obituary of Betty Anne Hoyt
It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of Betty Anne Hoyt, of Quispamsis announce her passing on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Kings Way Care Centre.
Betty had an amazing life and many adventures growing up on Frye’s Island and in Blacks Harbour. Betty had many careers and she excelled at them all. She was a devoted mother, a dedicated teacher, an award winning Avon representative and an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Tour Guide, which she did well into her 70s. Whether it be in the Saint John area, the Maritimes, her beloved Newfoundland, or on a boat in Florida, she loved her tours. She spent many winters in Bermuda, Florida, and other sunny destinations.
Betty was a proud New Brunswicker who spent her early years on her beloved Frye’s Island. She was a free range child who spent her days wandering the beach collecting shells, roaming the woods, working with her family in the gardens and weir, and caring for livestock. Betty could row a boat as well as any of the boys. She carried the love of her parents Inez and Harry and her time spent on the island throughout her life. You could see it in the sparkle of her bright blue eyes.
Betty loved the outdoors and was connected to nature in every way. Always curious, she was a passionate life long learner. If she didn’t know the answer she would soon find someone who did and then happily share her knowledge. Betty loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. When asked, she would tell you that Newfoundland and Bermuda were her favourites. She loved to share all of her adventures with family and friends. If you wanted to know where to find the best lobster roll, Betty could tell you.
She had a zest for life and loved being outdoors exploring new places, flowers, plants and birds. Betty was particularly fond of walking beaches to find beach glass, shells and special rocks – a hobby shared with her niece, Heather.
Betty was an amazing cook, baker and host. If you had an invite for dinner, dessert and cards, it was going to be a memorable occasion. She enjoyed picking special apples for her famous apple pie, or gathering fresh fiddleheads for a tasty meal.
It is said that a life well lived sends a giant ripple throughout family, friends and community. For all of us that were blessed to have known Betty, that ripple was felt.
We will remember her in the wonders of the land and the ocean, in plants and trees, rocks and sea glass, in nature walks and good fish dinners, and in connections with family and friends. Betty was loved and she will be missed.
She is survived by her sons Karl (Trish) and Reid, her half brother BB Chamberlain, sister in law Jane Chamberlain, niece Heather Wilson (Ron), Aralee Coombes Chamberlain (Phillip), Michelle Chamberlain, nephews; Wayne Chamberlain (Cindy), and Scott Chamberlain (Janice), special companion Ed Creaser, very special friend Ainslie Bradford of over 75 years, and several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many friends from across the globe.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Inez and Harry Walton, half brother, Blaine Chamberlain, sister Rowena Wilson, and special cousin, Alice Adams.
Special thanks to the amazing staff at Kings Way Care Centre, the Extra Mural Program of NB, and Betty’s good friend and caregiver Dolly Beyea, who all took such great care of Betty.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private interment to take place at Knox United Church Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to ALS Society of NB & NS, Kings Way Care Centre, or Knox United Church of Markhamville NB.
