Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jona Louise Houle (LOIS) on June 3,2021 at the age of 80, with her family by her side. Lois is survived by her brother Einar Gislason (Loretta), his three children Chasity, Lance, Lacey and her nephew Lonney Gislason. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren, that she considered like her own because she never had children of her own, as well as many, many, friends, her bingo friends, and partners, who will all miss her dearly.
Lois is predeceased by her husband Howard Houle, mother and father John and Susan Gislason, brothers Lil Johnny, and Gilly Gislason.
Lois was born on April 29,1941 in St. Rose MB. Where she lived on a farm, and in her twenties, she moved to Winnipeg where she met her husband Howard Houle, and they travelled around Canada and lived in Thompson MB, Toronto ON. And Smithers BC., she eventually settled in Winnipeg MB. In the north end and resided in the same house for 30 years. She worked at the Health Sciences Center in the kitchen for 25 plus years, where she met and touched the hearts of many co-workers over the years.
Lois had a love for her bingo and nickel bingo. She was also a dedicated volunteer for years at the Winnipeg Harvest and a member of the Freight House Club where she went to many meetings to help upkeep the hall for bingo and events. Lois was also one of the biggest Toronto Blue Jays fans and never missed a game, even watching reruns. She loved to play cards with family gambling all night till the sun came up.
Private family service will be held on Wednesday June 9,2021 at 1pm.,due to Covid restrictions there will be a virtual service for those who have Facebook can join Loretta, Einer, and Lacey Gislason, will be streaming live on Wednesday June 9,2021 at 1 pm. As Auntie wished there will not be a formal burial and her cremated remains will be spread on her late husband Howard Houle’s grave in Long Plains, MB.
We would like to thank the Winnipeg Paramedics, Emergency at the HSC, doctors, nurses and all the staff at the palliative ward on 5D who helped her be comfortable on her journey home. Thank you to Eternal Grace, and all friends and family for their care and support.
