March 16, 1936 – May 29, 2021
Grace was born in St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, to Jens and Asta Sahl. The family moved to Port Coquitlam in 1943, and this was where Grace grew up and graduated from high school. On August 5th, 1955, Grace married her childhood sweetheart, Roy Hartwig.
Roy and Grace built their first home in Port Coquitlam and lived there until 1975, when they moved to their farm in Armstrong. In 2004 they sold the Armstrong farm, and in 2005 moved to a 15 acre property on the Shuswap River in Grindrod. After Roy passed away in 2012, Grace moved back to Armstrong.
During her working life Grace worked as a secretary to the dietitians at Riverview Hospital in Port Coquitlam, a medical receptionist, a dietary aide, and from the late 70’s until her retirement in 1991, as a log scaler at Lavington Planer mill.
Grace loved her family, her garden (especially the roses and irises), her winter home in Indio, California, and dark chocolate.
Grace was predeceased by her parents, husband Roy, and first great grandchild, Jamie Tucker. She is survived by two daughters : Karla Tucker (Don) of Lac La Hache and Chris Hartwig (Joe Worley) of Armstrong, as well as three grandchildren : Logan Tucker (Myla) from Kelowna, Maddy Tucker-Cumming (Mark) from Kelowna, Delaney Tucker (Simon) of Calgary, and her brother Eric Sahl (Gayle) of Chilliwack.
The family wishes to thank Bev Clear, and all the amazing staff at Hospice House in Vernon, BC for their amazing care and support. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Grace’s name to the North Okanagan Hospice Society and in her memory, please encourage your loved ones to have regular cancer screening.
Cremation arrangements will be made by Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services in Armstrong, and will be followed by a private family ceremony.

Death notice for the town of: Armstrong, Province: Colombie britanique
To all of Graces Family.
We are very sad to hear that Grace has past. We bought our Desert Aire property in 1998, met Roy and Grace and have been friends ever since. Grace and Gail joyfully gardened at Desert Aire for all these years and enjoyed the beauty of our winter home for many seasons.
We extend our sincere sympathy. Love Gail and Bill Erickson
