Melvin’s Obituary
Melvin Clinton Gray of Kolbec peacefully passed away on the 24th of May, 2021 at the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash, following a brief illness. Born in Springhill on the 2nd of February, 1939, he was a son of Florence (Stevens) and Earl Gray. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Mearl and Charles; and sisters, Rhoda and Ruth. He is survived by his friends who have become his family, Wayne Brown, Duncan Fraser, Damian Hurley, George Mansour, Vance Pyne, Scott Fancy, Kyle Dillman, Laura Mooring, Mary Ann Clark, David Teed and all his support staff at Henley Hill Farm in Kolbec where he lived since 1988. Melvin was the true definition of a gentleman, always eager to share a story full of imaginative details, overflowing with his delightful sense of humour and sharp wit. He always had time for a conversation and a cup of coffee. He enjoyed drives immensely in the country and fill ups of fish and chips. He loved country music and watching western movies and crime TV. Melvin always enjoyed the company of animals. A huge thank you goes out to the counseling staff at Cumberland Community Homes for all the years of care provided, as well as Dr. Blaikie and the kind staff at the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital for the caring compassionate attention to Melvin in his last days. Melvin will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and sharing time with him. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. A celebration of Melvin’s life and graveside service at Kolbec Cemetery will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to Kolbec Cemetery.
